Meet Our Chief
Fire Chief Mark Niemi was sworn into Rice Lake Fire Department March of 2006. During his time with Rice Lake Fire Department, Chief Niemi has held many different roles and positions within the fire department. These roles include Assistant Chief, Captain, President, Training Officer, and Safety Officer. In 2007, Chief Niemi graduated from Lake Superior College with an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Technology and Administration.
Chief Niemi is a lifelong Duluth area resident. While not attending to fire department duties, Mark is employed full time with Minnesota Power. He enjoys spending his free time with his family, wife Sara, and three daughters Kristine, Hailey, and Harper.
When asked, what Chief Niemi enjoys most about the fire department, he replied, “The best part about the fire department to me is the people. You get to be a part of a team of men and women that want to serve their community because of their passion and commitment to helping others. The fire service is a close-knit brotherhood/sisterhood. What else could be better than having a second family? Everyone brings something to the table from many diverse backgrounds. We have people that work in business sectors, medical fields, industrial settings, military backgrounds, trade specialists, social work settings, and private business owners. I feel humbled to be able to lead this exemplary group of men and women serving Rice Lake.”
